Pipeline Inspection

  • Pipeline Inspection

  • Pipeline Inspection

Inspections of large number of pipelines at industrial sites, as well as the oil and gas pipelines are laid at extensive lengths benefits from UAV’s utilization. Drones depend on the context fixed wings or multirotor with mounted professional grade sensors that enable users to detect oil and gas leaks with remotely. The most frequently used thermal imagers check for the temperature differences between the soil and the fluid. The gas imagers are capable of spotting methane, propane or leakage of other gases.

Thus drones are the reasonable solutions to prevent destructions due to fires and explosions.

Some of the usual objectives of using drones for pipeline inspection are:

  • Inspection of off-shore oil platforms

  • Gas pipelines

  • Oil pipelines

  • Thermal plants and the connected pipeline network

Depending upon the objective of the mission, different sensors or cameras are loaded on the UAVs like:

  • Real image cameras: Nikon D800

  • Gas detectors: FLIR G300A

  • Thermal imagers: FLIR A65

The gas sensors on EWATT drones enable users to detect the below gases:

Methane(CH4), Ethane, Pentane, Ethylene, Xylene, Benzene, Ethanol, Ethyl benzene, Heptane, Hexane, Isoprene, Methanol, MEK, MIBK, Octane, Pentane, 1-Pentene, Toluene, m-xylene, Butane, Methane, Propane, Ethylene and Propylene

The distance flown, density of pipes, and foremost the object of the inspection (temperature or a specific gas) are the most important determiners of the UAVs and the sensor loaded to it. For instance, for offshore pipeline inspection multirotor like EWZ-S8 are equipped with UHD real image cameras which will provide the clearest images for the structural parts of the platform. The fixed wing EWG-II, perform their best at long haul flights along with the pipelines laid above the ground. If the precise coordinates of the pipeline are known, EWG-II equipped with ultra-sensitive sensors may detect the gases leakages from the pipes buried under the ground. EWATT UAV’s have a greater payload capacity, so whatever is the mission, the appropriate camera or sensors fits well on an EWATT UAV platform. The data transmitted by the UAVs are interpreted by EWATT experts which yields the best quality of information.
